Governance

The diverse activities on quantum technologies in Baden-Württemberg are bundled and beneficially combined in QuantumBW.

The central structure and working fields of QuantumBW are as follows:

QuantumBW is represented by two speakers:

Academic Speaker

Prof. Joachim Ankerhold, Director of the Institute for Complex Quantum Systems, Ulm University

“Starting from a research landscape in quantum sciences which is already unique in international comparison, with QuantumBW we want to take the final leap into the technology of the future, initially for quantum sensing, but then also for quantum computing. The prospect of using quantum mechanical properties of defects in diamonds, for example, to detect minute magnetic fields with unprecedented spatial resolution opens up unimagined perspectives for medical diagnostics. Even if quantum computing still needs significantly more fundamental development work, it has the potential to revolutionize materials research or logistics, for example.”

Prof. Dr. Joachim Ankerhold, Direktor des Instituts für Komplexe Quantensysteme, Universität Ulm

Industry Speaker

Dr. Volkmar Denner, Scientific Advisor Quantum Technology of the Bosch Group

“The QuantumBW innovation initiative brings together basic and applied research with industrial developers and users. The players of future quantum technologies can exchange ideas intensively and jointly build a powerful quantum ecosystem. Quantum technologies have great disruptive potential, but require high upfront investments and great endurance. For example, quantum sensors will make it possible to measure signals many times smaller than with conventional sensors. This could lead to completely new applications, for example in medical technology. A long-term vision is to be able to control devices with our thoughts.”

Dr. Volkmar Denner, Wissenschaftlicher Berater Quantentechnologie der Bosch-Gruppe
