Quantum Sensing MADE in THE LÄND—A Huge Success for Quantum Sensing from Baden-Württemberg

Organizations from Baden-Württemberg achieved great success in both “Funken” funding programs run by SPRIND—Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation. Nine of the 19 selected projects overall include partners from Baden-Württemberg, and thus from QuantumBW’s quantum ecosystem.

As part of the German government’s Hightech Agenda, SPRIND—Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation—published two calls for project proposals in August of this year, which are considered the first measures, known as “Funken,” for the field of quantum sensing.

The goal of the projects is to expand concrete use cases for existing quantum sensor systems. These projects aim to demonstrate the benefits that can be achieved through quantum sensor technology, ranging from greater precision and better predictions to more robust navigation and new forms of data analysis.

QuantumBW warmly congratulates the successful applicants and is delighted about the strong participation of partners from Baden-Württemberg. With nine out of a total of 19 funded projects—seven of 13 projects from the “Quantum-Driven Intelligence” Funken and two of six projects from the “QuantumSense Exploration” Funken—Baden-Württemberg is strongly represented among the funded projects.

The next SPRIND challenge in the field of quantum sensing is already underway. Teams can apply for “Measuring with Entanglement” until November 9, 2026, 12:00 p.m. (CET), to demonstrate the quantum advantage and show the transition from the lab to a concrete application under real-world conditions.
